Basketball Recap: Hampton Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Hampton Christian Academy suffered their biggest loss since January 8th on Friday. They came up short against the Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks, falling 62-39. The defeat continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Mighty Oaks: they've now lost five in a row.

Despite the loss, Hampton Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bryce Harris posted 16 points.

Norfolk Collegiate's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Justin Burrough, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. With that strong performance, Burrough is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Gavin Wright, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 18 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Hampton Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Norfolk Collegiate, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

After both having extra time off, Hampton Christian Academy and Denbigh Baptist Christian will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Hampton Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56 points per game this season. As for Norfolk Collegiate, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, an 86-36 victory against Eastern Mennonite on the 21st.
