Softball Recap: Irvin Comes Up Short

Irvin extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-4. They lost 16-0 to the Riverside Rangers. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Rockets' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Riverside, they now have a winning record of 2-1. The victory continues a trend for them in their matchups with Irvin: they've now won eight in a row.

For Riverside's part, Cassandra Acosta was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Acosta was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, Mandy Contreras was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Hailie Valdivia was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Irvin will head out on the road to challenge El Paso at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Riverside, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 15-4 win against Clint on the 14th.
