Baseball Game Preview: Wahkiakum Mules vs. Oakville Acorns

The Wahkiakum Mules will venture away from home to square off against the Oakville Acorns at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Oakville took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Wahkiakum, who comes in off a win.

While Wahkiakum's victory against Raymond/South Bend wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mules narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Ravens 10-9. While the Mules didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Brody Ashe and Gage Robinson did most of the damage at the plate: Ashe scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Robinson scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those hits marked the first that Ashe got this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston West, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Oakville came up short against Wahkiakum last Wednesday and fell 9-4.

The victory made it two in a row for Wahkiakum and bumps their season record up to 5-1. As for Oakville, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wahkiakum has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .448. However, it's not like Oakville struggles in that department as they've averaged .590. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Wahkiakum beat Oakville 9-4 when the teams last played last Wednesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mules since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
