The Akron Rams will square off against the Sedgwick County Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Akron will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Akron is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Dayspring Christian Academy, who was ranked sixth at the time (Akron was ranked first). The Rams secured a 14-8 W over the Eagles on Saturday. The 14-point effort marked the Rams' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Jace Curtis produced another solid performance rushing for 62 yards and one score, while also picking up 62 receiving yards and one TD. He didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble, made eight total tackles, and defended two passes.

Another reason for the win was Akron's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 4.5 sacks. Tucker Webb was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up 2.5 himself. He has been hot recently, having also posted seven or more total tackles the last three times he's played.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sedgwick County). They claimed a resounding 52-6 victory over Merino. With the Cougars ahead 44-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Akron better keep an eye on Owen Harris. He was instrumental in Sedgwick County's win, rushing for 163 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. Harris also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble and making 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss). Brady Mollendor was another key player, rushing for 152 yards and three TDs on only nine carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sedgwick County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 418 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 209 rushing yards in five consecutive games.
Akron's win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Sedgwick County, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Akron has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 182.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sedgwick County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 298.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Akron took their win against Sedgwick County in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 by a conclusive 28-6 score. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
