Baseball Recap: Menendez Comes Up Short

Menendez extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 6-11. They came up short against the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets, falling 6-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 16-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2025.

As for St. Augustine, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

For St. Augustine's part, Kaiden Blakney made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Blakney posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since March 3rd. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Dalton Greene looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of St. Augustine's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 5-1 (and 6-8 when he doesn't).

Blakney wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Kirk, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run. Drew O'Quinn was another, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Coming up, Menendez is taking a road trip to face off against Fleming Island at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Golden Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Augustine, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Clay at 7:00 p.m.
