Basketball Game Preview: El Paso Tigers vs. Canutillo Eagles

El Paso and Canutillo are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2018, but not for long. The El Paso Tigers will host the Canutillo Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

El Paso is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest defeat since December 6, 2024 on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Burges and fell 64-26. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1011th, while the Mustangs are ranked 315th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Canutillo, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They breezed by Jefferson to the tune of 44-12 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Eagles have posted since December 5, 2024.

El Paso has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 14 of their last 17 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season. As for Canutillo, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.

El Paso came out on top in a nail-biter against Canutillo in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, sneaking past 38-36. Does El Paso have another victory up their sleeve, or will Canutillo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
