Basketball Recap: Marquette Catholic Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Josiah Mays and Cole Dobre

After flying high against Morgan Township last Wednesday, Marquette Catholic came back down to earth. The Marquette Catholic Blazers came up short against the Andrean Fighting 59ers on Saturday, falling 73-49. While losing is never fun, the Blazers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while the Fighting 59ers are ranked 129th).

Marquette Catholic's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Cole Dobre, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Josiah Mays, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 19 points and five assists. The matchup was Dobre's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleks Pecoski, who posted six points and six boards.

Marquette Catholic's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Andrean, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-5.

Marquette Catholic will take on Hammond Morton at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Marquette Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54 points per game this season. As for Andrean, they are taking a road trip to square off against Lowell at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
