Softball Recap: Lakeland Wins Going Away Against Elkhart Christian Academy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Central Noble, Lakeland was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They never let the Elkhart Christian Academy Eagles get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Lakers this season.

Shakthi Ramachandran was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lakeland got a massive performance out of Rylee Amsden, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Amsden has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Reahgan Adams, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Lakeland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Lakeland's win bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakeland will challenge Concord at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Lakers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Minutemen have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, they will venture away from home to take on Prairie Heights at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Eagles are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
