5A Region III District 17 recap Oct. 30, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Cypress Ranch, who took down 199th ranked Cy-Fair, 31-21.
Cy-Ridge was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in 5A Region III District 17. The Rams vanquished Jersey Village 28-14 earlier in the week.
Cypress Lakes's dynamic duo of Robert Sylvester and Jeremy Allen proved tough for Cypress Creek to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Sylvester threw for 49 yards and one touchdown and Allen had 74 yards receiving. Romeo Williams helped Cypress Lakes' passing attack out by catching four balls for 21 yards.
Trent Holmes was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 86 yards on 19 carries as Cy-Woods fell to the Cougars. Teammate Nick Hooper added to the ground attack by rushing for 67 yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback Devontre Barlow of the Falcons is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1596. He has also thrown 13 touchdowns. On the ground, Cypress Lakes' Williams has rushed for 644 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Sylvester. The Cypress Lakes star has 40 catches for 667 yards.
A big matchup in 5A Region III District 17 this week will be when the Bobcats take on Cypress Falls. As it stands, Cy-Fair is in fifth, while the Eagles are in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Ed Pustejovsky's team takes on Cypress Falls. The Bobcats have allowed 160 points this season, while Kirk Eaton's team has given up 155. Cy-Fair allowed 31 points last week as it fell to the Mustangs.
Cypress Ranch moved up to 215 from 261 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Gene Johnson's team climbed the ranks as a result of besting the Bobcats 31-21.
