Softball Recap: Chaparral Comes Up Short

Chaparral extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-9 in the process. They lost 16-9 to the Belle Plaine Dragons. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Roadrunners of the 12-11 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Alyvia Rhodes made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season.

As for Belle Plaine, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-14. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

On Belle Plaine's side, Samantha Stinnett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. Stinnett has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn Brines, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Pace, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Chaparral beat Belle Plaine by a score of 16-1 later that day.
