Baseball Recap: Gresham Gophers vs. Sandy Pioneers
Gresham had lost seven straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-17 to make it eight. They fell 6-1 to the Sandy Pioneers. If the Gophers were looking for revenge after losing 9-1 to the Pioneers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Sandy, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.
For Sandy's part, Ashton Culp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Kobe Sparks was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Johnathin Silvis, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
While Gresham had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
