Basketball Recap: Riverside Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Losses at Home

There's no place like home for Riverside, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They came out on top against the Elba Bluejays by a score of 39-27 on Saturday. That's more bragging rights for the Chargers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Riverside was led to victory by Grace Mahony and Tessa Weltruski. Mahony almost dropped a triple-double on 13 points, 13 boards, and nine steals, while Weltruski posted 13 points and three steals. Mahony is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed five or more in the last three games she's played. Ryann Mahony also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Riverside was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elba only racked up four assists.

Despite the defeat, Elba saw an underclassman step up: sophomore JarahLynn Morrow scored 12 points and five rebounds.

Riverside's victory ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-12. As for Elba, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.

Riverside will square off against Archangels Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Elba, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Fullerton at 6:00 p.m. on January 28th.
