Football Preview: Brown County Hornets vs. Athens Warriors

The Brown County Hornets will face off against the Athens Warriors on Saturday. Brown County's defense has only allowed 8.6 points per game this season, so Athens' offense will have their work cut out for them.

Brown County is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 63 points two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Calhoun/Brussels on Friday. They took a 21-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors. The Hornets haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Athens). They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 55-13 victory over Riverton. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Gage Honn and Talon Digiovanna. Honn rushed for 193 yards and four scores while picking up 9.7 yards per carry while Digiovanna rushed for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries. Honn's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 153 rushing yards.

Athens was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 442 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Athens' record now sits at 6-3. As for Brown County, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.
