Basketball Recap: East Rutherford Falls to Polk County in First Game of Season + How To Watch

East Rutherford had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They received a blow on Monday as they fell 67-49 to the Polk County Wolverines. The Cavaliers were not able to make up for their loss to the Wolverines from their previous meeting back in February.

Despite the defeat, East Rutherford had strong showings from Bella Harris, who shot 46% from the field to rack up 15 points along with eight rebounds and five steals, and Zilah Dewberry, who posted 11 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Faith Smith, who scored 12 points and five assists.

Leading Polk County to victory were Bailey Staton and Reeve Carroll. Staton went 12-for-21 on her way to 32 points and seven rebounds, while Carroll shot 70% from the field en route to 16 points in addition to seven boards and six assists. Those 16 points gave Carroll a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Amiyah Waters, who had three points along with 11 rebounds and five assists.

Looking ahead, East Rutherford will venture away from home to face off against McDowell at 6:00 p.m. on the 25th. As for Polk County, they will host Chase at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
