Basketball Recap: State College Takes a Loss

State College lost against Central Dauphin back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The State College Little Lions took a 70-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Central Dauphin Rams. While losing is never fun, the Little Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Rams are ranked 14th).

Despite the loss, State College still got an impressive performance from Reed Melvin, who went 9 for 13 en route to 23 points and five boards. That was a full 35.9% of State College's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Michael Powell was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Even though they lost, State College was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Central Dauphin got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Wayne Fletcher II out in front who went 9 of 19 on his way to 19 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Fletcher II's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points. Another player making a difference was Jelani Easter, who went 7 for 12 to rack up 18 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

State College has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. As for Central Dauphin, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-4.

As of now, neither State College nor Central Dauphin have any future games scheduled.
