Baseball Recap: Mission Hills Sets Scoring Season-High Against Southwest EC

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Mission Hills can now relate to. They fell just short of the Southwest EC Eagles by a score of 18-16 on Friday. On the bright side, the 16- run effort marked the Grizzlies' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Cayden Smith led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxson Jenkins, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Mission Hills and nudges their season record down to 11-19. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 21-8 Coronado (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 77.3% over those games). As for Southwest EC, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season.

Mission Hills does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Southwest EC, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 3-2 defeat against Coronado on the 24th.
