Valley was handed a three-set loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Pinon Eagles 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted against the Eagles since September 3, 2022.

Valley wouldn't go down easily and took Pinon into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. The match finished with set scores of 27-29, 25-15, 20-25, 26-24, 15-10.

Elianna Swatts paced Valley's offense, picking up eight kills. Swatts got some help from Nizhoni Roan and her two assists. Finally, Khloe Pusher and Trinity Mitchell kept the team grounded on defense, each having blocked four attacks.

Valley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Pinon, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.

Valley has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Northland Prep Academy on the 20th. As for Pinon, they will square off against Hopi at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles are facing the Bruins at the right time seeing as the Bruins are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
