Soccer Game Preview: Genoa-Kingston vs. Winnebago

The Genoa-Kingston Cogs are taking a road trip to face off against the Winnebago Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Genoa-Kingston is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 15 games.

Winnebago better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if Genoa-Kingston's game on Monday is any indication, that's when Genoa-Kingston really gets things going. The Cogs never let Mendota get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. The result was nothing new for Genoa-Kingston, who have now won ten games by three goals or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Winnebago's contest on Thursday was close up to the half, but then they kicked things up a notch. They blew past Pecatonica 6-2. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for Winnebago's offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Genoa-Kingston pushed their record up to 17-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 44 goals over those ten matchups. As for Winnebago, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-10.

Genoa-Kingston beat Winnebago by a goal when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cogs since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
