Baseball Recap: Lamesa Comes Up Short

Lamesa fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Denver City on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They lost 10-2 to the Mustangs. That makes it the first time this season the Tornadoes have let down their home crowd.

Michael Moreno was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jonah Muniz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Lamesa suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 9-11. As for Denver City, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Lamesa is set to square off against their familiar foe Compass Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Denver City will take on rival Brownfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
