Softball Game Preview: Douglas Byrd Eagles vs. Cape Fear Colts

Douglas Byrd is 0-10 against Cape Fear since March of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Douglas Byrd Eagles will welcome the Cape Fear Colts at 6:00 p.m.

Douglas Byrd is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 21st straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They came up short against Purnell Swett, falling 22-0.

Meanwhile, Cape Fear put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let St. Pauls get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The Colts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.

Not much got past Karalina Tomasic, who gave up just six hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep St. Pauls off the board. Those 11 strikeouts gave Tomasic a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Addy Davis was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Kalilah De La Cruz was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Davis wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Cape Fear kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Cape Fear pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Douglas Byrd, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
