Softball Game Preview: El Capitan Vaqueros vs. Steele Canyon Cougars

The El Capitan Vaqueros will take on the Steele Canyon Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

El Capitan's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Academy of Our Lady of Peace 1-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vaqueros.

Not much got past Addison Higuera, who gave up just six hits to keep Academy of Our Lady of Peace off the board.

At the plate, El Capitan's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kylee Frazier, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases Frazier has posted since back in April.

Meanwhile, Steele Canyon had already won four in a row and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Bulldogs. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Kendall Drake, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those hits were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Isabella Azevedo, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four runs.

Steele Canyon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are undefeated (7-0) when they post 11 or more hits.

El Capitan's victory bumped their record up to 12-13. As for Steele Canyon, their win bumped their record up to 14-11-1.

El Capitan was able to grind out a solid victory over Steele Canyon in their previous meeting back in April, winning 11-7. Will the Vaqueros repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
