Baseball Recap: Amboy Comes Up Short

Amboy fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Ashton-Franklin Center on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 8-4 to the Raiders. The Clippers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Amboy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Quinn Leffelman, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Leffelman snagged this season. Carson Barlow was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Amboy's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Ashton-Franklin Center, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Amboy will challenge River Ridge/Scales Mound at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Clippers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ashton-Franklin Center, they will square off against South Beloit at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Sobos have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
