Softball Recap: Peninsula Catholic Takes a Loss

Peninsula Catholic and Cape Henry Collegiate squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Peninsula Catholic had to settle for second. They came up short against the Dolphins, falling 19-9. The Knights were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Dolphins earlier this season, when they won 16-8.

Ava O'Shaughnessy-Tong made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Addison Dent was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Peninsula Catholic and nudges their season record down to 13-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 18-4 Nansemond-Suffolk Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 75.3% over those games). As for Cape Henry Collegiate, they pushed their record up to 11-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Peninsula Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cape Henry Collegiate, they will challenge Nansemond-Suffolk Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Saints will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something the Dolphins surely won't give up without a fight.
