Softball Game Preview: Chavez Titans vs. Lodi Flames

The Chavez Titans will venture away from home to take on the Lodi Flames at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chavez is looking for their season's first victory.

Chavez lost 12-1 to Rio Linda on Tuesday.

Chavez saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gianna Rodriguez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lodi). They put the hurt on Tokay with a sharp 12-0 win on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Flames in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won seven in a row.

Abigail Schweigerdt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Mauch, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Schallberger, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Lodi kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tokay only managed one.

Lodi now has a winning record of 4-3-1. As for Chavez, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.

Chavez came up short against Lodi when the teams last played back in March of 2016, falling 5-0. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
