Softball Preview: La Porte Slicers vs. Portage Indians

The La Porte Slicers are on the road again on Wednesday to play the Portage Indians at 4:30 p.m. La Porte is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, La Porte needed a bit of extra time to put away Valparaiso. They skirted past the Vikings 4-2.

Mia Maxel spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Reghan Stephany and Jersey Worthington did most of the damage at the plate: Stephany scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-5, while Worthington scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Portage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Morgan Township by a score of 12-10.

La Porte has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Portage, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
