Volleyball Recap: Mercyhurst Prep Takes a Loss

Mercyhurst Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Iroquois Braves. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lakers of the 3-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Mercyhurst Prep came incredibly close to winning: the sets they lost were decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 24-26, 25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 16-14.

Iroquois found their leader in sophomore Paisley Cook, who had 18 digs and two assists. Cook is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 14 or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Mercyhurst Prep's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Iroquois, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-5-2.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Mercyhurst Prep is set to challenge their familiar foe Girard at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Iroquois will square off against rival Cathedral Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
