Basketball Recap: East Gaston Comes Up Short

East Gaston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 59-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Highland Tech Rams. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.

Elijah Sherrill was his usual excellent self, going 6 of 12 on his way to 36 points and four steals for Highland Tech. That makes it five consecutive games in which Sherrill has scored at least a third of Highland Tech's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper McCraw, who posted eight points in addition to seven boards and three blocks.

East Gaston's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Highland Tech, they moved to 5-6 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

East Gaston and Highland Tech could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. East Gaston (ranked 615th) will meet Bessemer City (ranked 174th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Highland Tech (ranked 420th) will meet Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy (ranked 138th) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
