League recap: Skaneateles tops Herkimer to extend winning streak

Skaneateles extended the longest winning streak in Section 3 Class C - West this week by beating Herkimer, 33-16. This was the team's 10th consecutive win.

Skaneateles took down the Magicians 33-16 last week, the largest margin of any game. Conor Herr threw for 296 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 53 yards in the win.

Joe Sindoni's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Max Weiss chipped in 78 yards. Colin Jones helped Skaneateles' passing attack out by catching three balls for 74 yards.

Jake Cooney was the best wideout in the league this week as the Lakers beat Herkimer. Cooney tallied 11 receptions for 196 yards.

Skaneateles' Herr and Cooney have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Herr has thrown for 2504 yards this season, while Cooney, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 66 catches for 994 yards. Colby Trexler from Jordan-Elbridge leads the league in rushing with 1349 yards.

Cooney of the the Lakers' is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only six receiving yards in this week's game against Chenango Forks to get there.

Mike Spain has rushed for 972 yards on 106 carries so far this year.

Skaneateles made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,855 from 2,080. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 33-16 victory over Alan Steele's team last week.
