Recap: Cigarroa Toros vs. Nixon Mustangs
This season hasn't been kind to The Cigarroa Toros, who are still winless after their eighth game. They were outmatched by Nixon on the road and fell 42-7. Cigarroa was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.
Armando Mata rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown. Adriel Tapia was his top target, picking up 29 receiving yards and no touchdowns.
Nixon's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Shawn David haynes, who picked up 222 receiving yards and four touchdowns. RAY GONZALEZ was another key contributor, throwing for 301 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes.
Cigarroa's loss was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Southside and 6-2 Zapata (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 68% over those games). As for Nixon, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Cigarroa will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Southwest at 7:00 p.m. Southwest is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. As for Nixon, they will head out on the road to face off against Southwest Legacy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
