Preview: Westfield Shamrocks vs. Avon Orioles
Westfield is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Avon is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Westfield Shamrocks will take on the Avon Orioles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Westfield scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They breezed by Tri-West Hendricks on the road to the tune of 68-27. Westfield has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 25 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Nic Book, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Caleb Wise was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Avon didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Decatur Central on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 62-56 victory. The victory was just what Avon needed coming off of a 70-38 loss in their prior matchup.
Avon can attribute much of their success to Rohan Pearson, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Deandre Lott-hancock, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Westfield's victory bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Avon, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Westfield hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.2 points per game. However, it's not like Avon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 56.8 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Westfield couldn't quite finish off Avon when the teams last played back in January of 2023 and fell 59-56. Will Westfield have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
