Recap: Southern Wayne Saints vs. South Johnston Trojans
The Southern Wayne Saints suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Wednesday. Their tough 45-22 loss to South Johnston might stick with them for a while. Southern Wayne was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as South Johnston apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Southern Wayne's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kymora Stokes, who scored seven points, and Jaycee Hargrove who scored five points.
South Johnston's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lannah Price, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Emma Grey Thornton, who scored 12 points.
Southern Wayne dropped their record down to 6-11 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.5 points per game. As for South Johnston, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season.
Southern Wayne will look to defend their home court on Friday against East Wake at 6:00 p.m. As for South Johnston, they will head out on the road to challenge Smithfield-Selma at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
