Basketball Recap: Indian Land Falls Despite Big Games from Variellis Vega- Soto and Katilyn Knoll

Indian Land was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 49-41 to the Walhalla Razorbacks. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while the Razorbacks are ranked 29th).

Despite the defeat, Indian Land had strong showings from Katilyn Knoll, who posted six points in addition to 16 boards and eight steals, and Variellis Vega- Soto, who put up 11 points and five steals. Those 16 rebounds gave Knoll a new career-high.

Even though they lost, Indian Land smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 22 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Walhalla got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Miley White out in front who went 7 of 10 on her way to 14 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Ortiz-Viera, who had nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Indian Land's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Walhalla, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

Indian Land didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 45-40 defeat against Rock Hill on the 3rd. As for Walhalla, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 57-35 win against Chapman on the 3rd.
