Preview: Northwestern Wildcats vs. Iroquois Braves
The Northwestern Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Iroquois Braves at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 19 consecutive losses dating back to last season for Northwestern and three for Iroquois.
Last Friday, Northwestern was beaten by Girard 67-27. Northwestern has struggled against Girard recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Iroquois came up short against Mercyhurst Prep on Friday and fell 55-44. While losing is never fun, Iroquois can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 487th, while Mercyhurst Prep is ranked 221st).
The losing side was boosted by Kellen Burroughs, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Devin Brink was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Northwestern dropped their record down to 0-18 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight at home. As for Iroquois, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season.
Northwestern came up short against Iroquois in their previous meeting back in January, falling 56-45. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Iroquois' Orlando Brown, who scored nine points along with six steals and five rebounds. Now that Northwestern knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
