Preview: Central Eagles vs. Chesterfield Golden Rams
Central is 2-8 against Chesterfield since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Central Eagles will be playing at home against the Chesterfield Golden Rams at 6:15 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Central scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 58-22 victory over North Central. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Central has managed all season.
Jordyn Griffin continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kabreyia Covington, who scored seven points along with 16 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Chesterfield put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Buford 47-24. The win was familiar territory for Chesterfield who now have five in a row.
Chesterfield's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Terrahjah Robinson, who scored 15 points along with seven steals and five rebounds, and Kierra Diggs, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Diggs has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Jaeda Johnson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with four steals.
Central's win ended a 13-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-13. As for Chesterfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Central have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Chesterfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
