Softball Recap: West Limestone Extends Winning Streak to 20

West Limestone had already won 19 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it 20 on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Austin Black Bears a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 16 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Katie Lyn Kyle was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilly Bethune, who went 1-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Lilee Legg also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

West Limestone kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Austin only managed two hits.

West Limestone's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 26-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Austin, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-10-1.

West Limestone and Austin should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. West Limestone will take on Westminster Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 124 places (10 vs. 134). Meanwhile, Austin (ranked 49th) will meet Florence (ranked 192nd) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
