Softball Recap: Taylorville Comes Up Short

Taylorville suffered their closest loss since May 21, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of the Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals by a score of 5-3. If the Tornadoes were looking for revenge after losing 5-4 to the Cardinals when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Peyton DeMicheal put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. DeMicheal was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was her first of the season.

DeMicheal wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was McKynlee Siempelkamp, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Siempelkamp also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

Taylorville's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-7. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 4.5 runs. As for Warrensburg-Latham, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Coming up, Taylorville will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Nokomis at 4:30 p.m. As for Warrensburg-Latham, they will square off against Clinton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Maroons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
