Football Preview: Eldred Yellowjackets vs. Ellenville Blue Devils
Eldred hasn't had much luck against Ellenville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eldred Yellowjackets will square off against the Ellenville Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.
While Yellowjackets fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Saturday's season opener. They blew past Livingston Manor-Roscoe Central, posting a 46-0 victory on the road.
Koen McGill went supernova for Eldred, rushing for 90 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, while also throwing for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only eight passes. The dominant performance gave McGill a new career-high in rushing yards. A healthy portion of that aerial production (81 yards to be exact) went to Trai Kaufmann, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Meanwhile, Ellenville strolled past Pine Plains/Rhinebeck with points to spare last Friday, taking the game 34-20.
Pedro Bonachea had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 360 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per carry. He was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Ellenville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 381 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 162 rushing yards in seven consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Ellenville wouldn't let Pine Plains/Rhinebeck keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Ellenville can thank Caige Burns and Dyron Laurel for forcing both of them.
