Blake is 0-10 against Jefferson since March of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Blake Yellow Jackets will be playing at home against the Jefferson Dragons at 7:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Blake took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Brandon. The win continues a trend for the Yellow Jackets in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.
C Hobbs was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over 5.2 innings pitched. Hobbs was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Z Newton, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was K Pena, who scored a run and stole Five bases. while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, while Jefferson put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Middleton. Jefferson blew past Middleton 16-0. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Dragons this season.
Like Blake, Jefferson also got a great game from a two-way player: Sophia Alvarado. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Alvarado was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Those hits were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Madisen Fleming was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Anais Ortiz, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Jefferson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Jefferson now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Blake, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Blake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .418. However, it's not like Jefferson struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
