Softball Game Preview: Wheeling Wildcats vs. Barrington Fillies/Broncos

Wheeling hasn't had much luck against Barrington recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wildcats will head out to challenge the Fillies/Broncos at 4:45 p.m. Wheeling has given up an average of 10.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wheeling managed to slip by Rolling Meadows the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wildcats came up short against the Mustangs on Wednesday, falling 13-4. The Wildcats just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Katie Moser made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Alaina Costello, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Barrington faced Sycamore in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Fillies/Broncos and the Spartans finished up their matchup with a 5-5 tie. The Fillies/Broncos' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Barrington's draw gives them a new season record of 18-2-1. As for Wheeling, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.

Wheeling might still be hurting after the 15-1 loss they got from Barrington when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
