Basketball Recap: Harrison Riggs Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Riverside

Spring Valley won the last time they faced Riverside and things went their way on Saturday too. The Spring Valley Timberwolves enjoyed a cozy 84-67 win over the Riverside Warriors. Given the Timberwolves' advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Warriors are ranked 66th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Spring Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Harrison Riggs, who almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. Riggs' evening made it 15 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Clay Robertson was another key player, going 7-for-13 to rack up 21 points and six boards.

Spring Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Riverside lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Josh Brock, who went 10-for-13 en route to 24 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Bryer Mullins, who went 10-for-15 on his way to 24 points.

Spring Valley's victory bumped their record up to 14-1. As for Riverside, they dropped their record down to 4-13 with the loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Spring Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 80-70 win against Parkersburg on the 12th. As for Riverside, they are taking a road trip to square off against Woodrow Wilson at 7:30 p.m. on February 15th. Riverside is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season.
