Football Recap: Hooks Hornets vs. Daingerfield Tigers
After flying high against Hughes Springs last Friday, Hooks came back down to earth. The Hornets took a hard 76-59 fall against the Daingerfield Tigers on Friday. The Hornets have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Hooks still got an impressive performance from Ripken Birdwell, who threw for 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 30 yards and one score. Birdwell also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble and making eight total tackles.
A big part of Daingerfield's victory came down to the chemistry between Isaiah Parker and his top target Reign Wallace. Parker threw for 408 yards and seven TDs while picking up 15.1 yards per attempt while Wallace gained 286 total yards and six touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Wallace a new career-high in receiving touchdowns (five). Micah Broughton helped Parker out on the ground, rushing for 108 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries.
Hooks' loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-3. As for Daingerfield, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-3.
Hooks didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 18-14 victory against New Boston on the 24th. As for Daingerfield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 72-16 win against Hughes Springs on the 23rd.
