Football Recap: Johnstown Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Johnstown can now relate to. They came up short against the Granville/Whitehall Golden Horde on Saturday, falling 34-14. The Sir Bills were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Horde apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.

Johnstown's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Cole Downing, who rushed for 67 yards and a pair of scores, and Jonny Swartwout, who rushed for 126 yards while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Swartwout is becoming a predictor of the Sir Bills' success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is 3-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

Chad Monty continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Granville/Whitehall, rushing for 296 yards and five TDs while picking up 7.0 yards per carry. Monty's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 12th straight game with at least 112 rushing yards dating back to last season.

With the loss, Johnstown broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-4. As for Granville/Whitehall, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-2.

Johnstown didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 27-16 victory against Gloversville on the 7th. As for Granville/Whitehall, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 51-0 defeat against Fonda-Fultonville on the 7th.
