The Spencer County Bears will face off against the Whitefield Academy Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Spencer County turned things around against Frankfort on Wednesday. They never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.
Annalee Wood looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Spencer County let Brooklyn Hunt and Kaylen Newton run wild. Hunt went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Newton went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Hunt has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Haylee Piercy, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.
Spencer County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Frankfort only posted an OBP of .150.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Whitefield Academy). They blew past Southern 22-4 on Wednesday. The win was familiar territory for the Wildcats, who have now won three matches in a row.
Gwynnie Franz made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Franz was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with six stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, Allie Carter was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Pickett, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Whitefield Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Spencer County, their win bumped their record up to 10-11.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Spencer County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .448. However, it's not like Whitefield Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .479. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
