Sixteen of the nation's top quarterbacks are competing in an always entertaining event, this year at Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.
BEAVERTON, Ore. — The key numbers are 16, 11 and one. There are
16 of the nation's top quarterbacks competing currently in the Elite
11 Quarterbacks competition at Nike headquarters. Only
one will turn up victorious.

The competition runs through Wednesday in conjunction with
The Opening, which brings together 150 of the top football players in the country.
More than a dozen quarterback coaches — many who were part of the Elite 11 camp since its inception — are leading the young guns, including the face and backbone of the showcase, Trent Dilfer. The former NFL quarterback, Super Bowl champion and Fresno State star is miked and historically has offered the most impassioned critiques in an event that has been showcased on ESPN.

0 — The number of starts in the high school career of
Morgan Mahaiak, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound incoming senior at
Marin Catholic (Kentfield, Calif.). He had to sit behind one of the nation's top quarterbacks last season, current Cal freshman Jared Goff. Mahalak, the No. 3 dual-threat QB in the country according to
247sports.com, has already committed to Oregon.
1 — David Cornwell of
Norman North (Norman, Okla.) is the No. 1 ranked drop-back quarterback in the country according to 247sports. He threw for 2,700 yards and 27 touchdowns last season for
Jones (Okla.). He's committed to Alabama.
3.9 — The grade point average for
Desert Mountain (Scottsdale, Ariz.) 6-3, 195-pound slinger
Kyle Allen, who threw for 3,119 yards and 36 yards as a junior. He committed to Texas A&M on June 3.
4 — The number of San Francisco Bay Area quarterbacks to make the final 16 —

Gainesville (Ga.) quarterback
DeShaun Watson completed in 18 attempts for 350 yards and seven touchdowns in a 69-0 win over Winder-Barrow last seasons. Watson, a 6-4, 200-pounder, put up gaudy dual numbers last season completing 315 of 435 for 4,311 yards and 50 touchdowns. He also ran for 1,444 yards and 24 scores. He's committed to Clemson.

Will Grier of
Davidson Day (Davidson, N.C.) threw for in a single game, a
104-80 North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Division 2 semifinal victory over Harrells Christian Academy. Grier, a 6-3, 180-pounder, is committed to Florida.
