Basketball Recap: Leadore Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Lexi Bird and Azelynn Jones

After flying high against Sho-Ban last Tuesday, Leadore came back down to earth. The Leadore Mustangs took a 37-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rockland Bulldogs. The match marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Leadore's loss on Saturday came despite strong showings from Azelynn Jones and Lexi Bird. Jones posted ten points and six boards, while Bird put up 11 points and six rebounds. Bird has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Rockland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Harmony Boyer led the charge by putting up 11 points and seven steals. That's the most points Boyer has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Calyn Permann, who earned eight points along with eight boards and four steals.

Leadore's defeat dropped their record down to 15-3. As for Rockland, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Looking ahead, Leadore will host Grace Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Leadore's defense has only allowed 26.3 points per game this season, so Grace Lutheran's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Rockland, they will square off against Mackay at 8:00 p.m. on February 15th. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mackay comes in on seven and Rockland on three.
