Preview: Canyon Lake vs. Lampasas Badgers
The Canyon Lake will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lampasas Badgers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Canyon Lake is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
Last Friday, Canyon Lake had to suffer through a rough 66-28 loss at the hands of Taylor.
Despite their loss, Canyon Lake saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Harris Gilliam, who picked up 108 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground, was perhaps the best of all. Gilliam was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 63 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Steven Crowder, who threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Lampasas can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They breezed by Marble Falls at home to the tune of 42-7. The victory was just what Lampasas needed coming off of a 56-21 defeat in their prior matchup.
Lampasas can attribute much of their success to Reed Jerome, who threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Jett Walker, who rushed for 69 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
Taylor's victory bumped their season record to 5-4 while Canyon Lake's loss dropped theirs to 2-7.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Canyon Lake has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 216.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lampasas struggles in that department as they've been even better at 219.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Canyon Lake didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Lampasas when the teams last played back in November of 2022, but they still walked away with a 34-30 victory. Does Canyon Lake have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lampasas turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
