Football Game Preview: Nixon Mustangs vs. Martin Tigers + Official Tickets

The Nixon Mustangs will head out to face off against the Martin Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Nixon's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed two weeks ago. They claimed a resounding 40-0 victory over Cigarroa. The Mustangs' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Nixon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hunter Salinas, who rushed for 80 yards and two scores on only 11 carries, and also threw for 161 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes. What's more, Salinas racked up 163.8 passer rating, the most he's had since back in August of 2024. Nixon's leading receiver Mateo Hernandez was Salinas' top target yet again, picking up 118 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Nixon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 216 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cigarroa only rushed for 89.

Nixon didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Chris Lee and Christian Rodriguez.

Martin not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since November 1, 2024 (when they won 39-7). Everything went their way against Cigarroa as they made off with a 34-13 victory. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Toros recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Nixon's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Martin, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.

Nixon strolled past Martin in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 by a score of 24-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
