Softball Recap: Elysian Fields Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Madi Owens and Kaylen Commander

Elysian Fields managed to slip by Union Grove the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Elysian Fields Yellowjackets might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 18-9 to the Union Grove Lions, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.

Kaylen Commander and Madi Owens did some serious damage despite the final result: Commander scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4, while Owens scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Commander a new career-high in doubles (two). Madi Giddens was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-5.

This is the second loss in a row for Elysian Fields and nudges their season record down to 2-16. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Union Grove, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.

While Elysian Fields had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
