Softball Recap: Bay Tigers vs. Poplarville Hornets
Bay was the 7-5 winner over Poplarville when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Tigers fell 7-3 to the Hornets on Tuesday.
Bay saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mackenzie Graham - 2025, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. That run was Graham - 2025's first of the season.
Bay dropped their record down to 6-14 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-5 Greene County and 9-5 Greene County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.9% over those games). As for Poplarville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6-1 record this season.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Bay is set to take on their familiar foe Pass Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Poplarville will challenge rival Greene County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hornets 2.3, the Wildcats 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
