Basketball Recap: Wheaton Takes a Loss

Wheaton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against the Jefferson Independent Day Cavaliers, falling 70-47. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-22.

Jefferson Independent Day found their leader in sophomore Jack Twiss, who went 12 for 20 on his way to 30 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Twiss has scored at least a third of Jefferson Independent Day's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Twiss, who posted 13 points along with seven boards and seven steals.

Wheaton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Jefferson Independent Day, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-5.

Wheaton won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Northeast Vernon County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Wheaton is facing Northeast Vernon County at the right time seeing as Northeast Vernon County is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Jefferson Independent Day, they will also get right back to it: they'll take on Sheldon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson Independent Day is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season.
